文部省英語教育顧問として招聘され、大正末期から昭和初期の日本の英語教育の発展に貢献したHarold Palmer、語彙数を限定した英語ベーシック・イングリッシュの提唱で有名なC. K. Ogden、Edmund Tilley、H. A. Harman、L. Tibbitts、P. A. D. MacCarthy、J. D. O’Connorなど主要な英語教育学者、英語音声学者の20世紀前半の著述を中心に関連の学術論文を多数復刻集成します。

とくにパーマーは、音声を中心とした指導法の開発、英語を英語で教えるダイレクトメソッドの実践などで知られ、英語教授研究所(現:語学教育研究所)を設立し初代所長を務めるなど、日本における英語教育を研究する方にとって大変重要な人物です。
