The MIT Press（日本販売総代理店：紀伊國屋書店）は、Direct to Open（D2O）の2024年全タイトル（79タイトル）のオープンアクセス化が決定したことを発表しました。

2024年 D2O は参加期限延長なしで目標達成

2021年の開始以来、The MIT PressのD2Oでは毎年参加期限の延長を行ってきました。しかし2024年、初めて延長期間を設けず、D2Oの目標値が達成されました。

The MIT Pressの図書館連携販売部門（library relations and sales）シニアマネジャーのAnn Harris氏は「サスティナブルなオープンアクセス出版モデルを推進する上で、完全に、そしてオンタイムで、すべての資金目標を達成することは、私たちにとって非常に重要な意味があります」と述べています。

D2Oの注目の数字

学術書籍の伝統的市場が衰退化し続ける中で、D2Oによってサポートされた書籍は、これまで以上にオンラインで多くの読者を獲得しています。その閲覧数は、1タイトルあたり平均2,694回にものぼり、さらに、D2Oによる電子書籍は、学術引用がおおよそ1,100件にも及んでいます。以下の各数値は、D2Oの特徴を簡単に示しています。

Direct to Open（D2O）とは

Direct to Open （D2O）はThe MIT Pressの電子書籍購入の新しいモデルです。
各機関がタイトルごとに電子書籍を購入する従来モデルから、図書館が支援する共同体のオープンアクセスモデルへ移行しようというもので、2022年から開始されたモデルです（参加募集開始は2021年から）。各機関は、タイトルごとに個別購入する代わりに参加費を支払い、参加機関の支払い合計金額が予め設定された収入目標に到達すると、対象タイトルがオープンアクセスとして出版されます。また、参加機関にはオープンアクセス化の有無に関わらず、2021年までに刊行済の電子書籍への1年間のアクセス権が提供されます。
