U.S. Declassified Documents Onlineは、アメリカ連邦政府が発行した文書から機密指定の解除された文書を搭載、フルテキスト検索を実現したものです。連邦政府省庁の機密指定解除文書を提供するコレクションとしては最大規模を誇る電子リソースです。
収録文書は国務省、国防総省、CIA、FBI、国家安全保障会議、ホワイトハウス等、アメリカ連邦政府の中枢機関において機密指定された諜報文書、政策文書、外交書簡、閣議議事録、軍事レポート等の文書群です。第二次世界大戦、東西冷戦、朝鮮戦争、キューバ危機、植民地の独立、ベトナム戦争、国際貿易紛争、核拡散、中東紛争、テロリズムなど、超大国アメリカが関わった国際問題から、マッカーシズム、公民権運動、反戦運動、権力乱用、汚職など、アメリカ国内の政治問題まで、アメリカ政府関連文書の中でも最高度に重要な文書群を収録、アメリカの安全保障や外交に関する政策形成過程の舞台裏における最高レベルの意思決定を明るみに出すものとして、学術研究への寄与は計り知れません。また、米国の政策形成過程を理解することに止まらず、米国と外交関係を有する国々が現在抱える様々な問題を正しく理解し、解決策を与えるための基礎資料です。
